What is Visual Storytelling?

VSX is an 8-week course in visual storytelling. But it’s much more than that: It’s an experience. Our results-oriented experiential learning approach provides a deep dive into contemporary visual storytelling best practices. Our approach features practical lessons, frequent guests, hands-on exercises, group activities, peer learning, networking opportunities, project-based learning and more.

What 21st century skills will I learn in this course?

The Internet has experienced a marked shift toward visual communications, through the rapid growth of video and photo sharing, infographics and data visualization, and new technologies including virtual, augmented, and mixed reality. Corporate visual storytelling taps into the human brain’s natural preference for visuals over text, particularly in this age of decreasing user attention spans in an overcrowded and commoditized communications landscape. VSX students will learn about the dynamics of engaging through storytelling, trends in online visual marketing, and upcoming shifts in online communications.

Do I learn marketing strategy, too?

We teach the timeless principles of storytelling that survived for eons, skills like identifying business goals and buyer personas, establishing a business story, transforming your business story into video, crafting a multi-platform visual story distribution strategy across channels, determining your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and optimization plan. It combines marketing fundamentals, hands on training and industry perspectives from some of the top digital marketers in South Florida. Participants will earn both tactical and strategic experience to tell an effective visual storytelling to drive business impact.

Will I learn video development in this class?

Yes. You will learn how to convert your corporate story into a compelling video narrative that will engage your audience. VSX course includes 3 classes of hands-on video production studio by leveraging accessible video production tools.

Who are the instructors, mentors and guest speakers?

They are all top industry pros with decades of experience in the digital marketing, science and visual media field and in teaching adult learners.

The course costs $597. This is significantly below the actual cost of putting on the class. It is a community service provided to help bridge the 21st century skills gap in South Florida, funded through the generous support of Miami Dade College and John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
