WHY STARTUP CHALLENGE?

Startup Challenge gives you the knowledge, experience, and access to network to bring your business idea to life. During the 12-week program, you will develop real-life experiments that allow you to discover and develop a repeatable and scalable business model.

The Startup Challenge integrates design thinking, business model canvas, and lean startup methodologies with the three following outcomes:

STARTUP CHALLENGE STRUCTURE

This is a 12-weeks program with bi-weekly sessions of 3 hours each.
It is composed of three phases:

PHASE 1

APPLICATION VIDEO

“SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT”

Applicants should submit a 1-minute answering the following: What is the problem you’re trying to solve or the need you’re trying to satisfy, and why is your approach innovative?

PHASE 2

ENTREPRENEURIAL WORKSHOPS

“THE JOURNEY”

Participants will attend a series of entrepreneurial workshops and receive mentorship to develop low fidelity prototypes.

PHASE 3

THE PITCH

“THE GAUNTLET”

Upon completion of the program, you will present your business concept to panelists and peers for a chance to win $5000 in prizes.

LEAD INSTRUCTOR

Gustavo is the Program Manager and Lead Instructor of Entrepreneurship for The Idea Center. Over the years he has worked with hundreds of startups and established businesses from all industries. In his previous careers, he was a business development consultant and an entrepreneur in the logistics industry. Gustavo holds an MBA from Hult International Business School with an emphasis on International Business and Social Entrepreneurship.

Teams can create businesses using technologies that they have permission to use. This could mean that they created the technology, that the patent is in their name, or that they have the explicit (i.e. written) permission of the person or organization that owns the intellectual property. Any team that violates this will be automatically disqualified from the contest. You agree that you will not use the name of “Miami Dade College,” “The Idea Center,” or any variation, adaptation, or abbreviation thereof, or of any of its trustees, officers, faculty, students, employees, or agents, or any trademark owned by IT in any advertising or publicity without the written permission of Miami Dade College.
